The CoccInnelleS
30/05/2022

CoccInnelleS is a ladybug inn…

It’s made of padouk, an exotic wood with two key advantages: naturally resistant to insects and moisture, no treatment needed.

Unseen, but it’s partitioned inside:

Offering accommodations for four ladybug tribes:

All ladybugs welcome, regardless of black spot number or arrangement.

Housing to complete with leaves, pebbles, twigs, or other ladybug favorites.

The partition photo reveals numerunique’s clever translation key system designed for this project.

Side walls are locked by less original (though…) but equally effective keys:

So the whole holds without glue, nails, or screws!

This preference for gravity-only assemblies is one of numerunique’s favorites, but here the project met a contest’s judging criteria:

The jury will focus on:
- Eco-design: materials, assembly techniques, durability
- Insect functionality
- Originality and creativity
- Practicality: easy installation, maintenance

Prioritizing ladybugs is motivated by aphids:

Yes, aphids are a plague, so ladybugs, their natural predator, are preferred.

An attentive reader may notice a special device on the CoccInnelleS roof:

This groove intercepts rainwater drops to prevent wall runoff.

Yes, it’s a luxury inn!

6 months later, padouk took its tanned color from sun exposure (yes, there’s sun in the North!):

But this wood perfectly withstood rains and humidity (yes, it rains in the North too). Exactly as expected.
