100 Unique Anniversary Plaques
24/08/2018

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the North Sea Yacht Club (YCMN) entrusted numerunique with creating 100 unique commemorative plaques!
The plaques’ design follows the YCMN’s specifications, but the inscription at the bottom is replaced by the name of the boat of the respective skipper. In the photo above, the wood type used for the plaque replaces this distinctive inscription in the sample made for wood selection.
Initially proposed in ipe for its marine qualities (ipe is highly resistant, even to seawater), beech was chosen for its superior aesthetic appeal.

Producing a plaque involves several steps.
Starting with raw wood, it’s pre-cut, planed, and milled to the correct thickness (8 mm).
The prepared boards are then processed on a digital milling machine to cut 80 mm diameter circles (though more complex shapes could easily be made), which are sanded for an even smoother surface.
The club’s flame logo is printed with UV-polymerized inks.
Finally, the inscriptions, including each plaque’s unique boat name, are laser-engraved. This step is partially automated, particularly for selecting boat names from a database directly from the YCMN’s list, avoiding errors from manual intervention.
The set is delivered in a specially made box:

100 neatly arranged plaques are remarkably compact.
