A Shelf in a Fireplace

A fine example of a complex and unique object in multiple ways:
- the volume to fill is anything but standard,
- the wood used is exceptional,
- the design is original,
- the assembly technique is an invention.
The wood used is ijzerhart per the supplier’s invoice, also known as coraçao de negro, swartzia, bois perdrix, wamara, or ironwood. The name “ironwood” best reflects its technical properties.

Creating these shelves from raw solid wood involved digital technology in three steps:
- planing the boards,
- computer-aided design,
- inventing an assembly method without glue, nails, or screws.
